Get Involved with CFSH

Buffalo ForkThere are lots of fun and exciting ways for you to get involved with CFSH, from writing letters to the editor of your local newspaper, to hosting a CFSH party at your house, to taking elected officials and newspaper reporters on a float down the Snake River.  Here are 7 easy ways for you to get involved with CFSH.

1. Contact U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso

With the untimely death of U.S. Senator Craig Thomas in June '07, the Snake Headwaters Legacy Act needs a new sponsor in order to continue moving through Congress and onto the President's desk. Please contact Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming) and newly-appointed Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyoming) and let them know how important the Snake Headwaters Legacy Act is to you and thousands of people in Wyoming. Ask them to support the Snake Headwaters Legacy Act as a tribute to Senator Craig Thomas, who made this bill a major priority during his last days in office. The best way to contact Senators Enzi and Barrasso is via phone or fax:

U.S. Senator Mike Enzi
379A Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C., 20510
Phone: (202) 224-3434
Fax: (202) 228-0359

U.S. Senator John Barrasso
307 Dirksen Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
Phone: (202) 224-6441
Fax: (202) 224-1724

2. Write letters to the editor

We also urge you to email letters to the editor of your local newspaper urging U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso to honor Senator Thomas' legacy by becoming sponsors of the Snake Headwaters Legacy Act.  To increase your chances of getting your letters published, keep them to between 150-250 words.  Also, be sure to write “letter to the editor” in the subject heading of your email.

3. Invite us to make a presentation to your group

One of the best ways for us to spread the word about CFSH is to speak to local groups who would be interested in hearing what we’re all about.  If you’re a member of a local fishing club, hunting club, Rotary Club, chamber of commerce, church group, school group, or other local organization, we’d love to come speak with you.  Just email us at: info@snakeheadwaters.org.

4. Join the growing list of CFSH business supporters

Community leaders, elected leaders, and average citizens are all more likely to support a campaign if they know that other businesses they respect and patronize also support the campaign.  To get your business listed as a CFSH Business Supporter, email us at: info@snakeheadwaters.org.  CFSH Business supporters will receive an official CFSH Business Supporter sticker and will have the opportunity to display campaign literature and sales items at their businesses.

5. Volunteer your time

As CFSH kicks into high gear this summer, we’ll need lots of volunteers to distribute literature, make phone calls, fold letters, and take dignitaries (e.g. elected leaders and newspaper reporters) on raft trips and fishing trips.  If you would like to volunteer for CFSH, email us at: info@snakeheadwaters.org.

6. Host a CFSH open house

One of our most important campaign goals is to inform the people who live along the rivers and streams we seek to protect by making presentations in their neighborhoods.  If you live along a wild and scenic eligible river and you would be willing to invite your neighbors to your home to hear a presentation by a CFSH staffer, please email us at: info@snakeheadwaters.org.

7. Donate money to CFSH

Like all successful campaigns, we need to raise sufficient funds to pay our staff, publish outreach materials, and travel to meetings as far away as Washington, DC.  To find out how you can make a secure online donation to CFSH, click Donate to CFSH.

One fun and effective way to raise money and educate your friends and neighbors at the same time is to host a CFSH party at your house.  If you are interested in hosting a CFSH party, please email us at: info@snakeheadwaters.org and we’ll be happy to help you plan a successful event.
